About Pearl Roots

A cultural initiative rooted in Biharwe, Mbarara City, working for all of Uganda.

Our story

Pearl Roots Harakati Ltd. was founded on 9 September 2026 and is headquartered in Biharwe, Mbarara City. Its purpose is to preserve and promote the cultures and traditions of Uganda’s different communities, embracing diversity as a strength and drawing on the natural endowment of the Pearl of Africa.

We are a non-profit organisation. We want Uganda known as the most beautiful place to stay on earth, because of its people, landscapes, soils, flora, fauna, sun and climate.

That aim is pursued through celebrating traditional cultures, championing domestic and cultural tourism, nurturing culture-based talent, and advocating sustainable livelihoods as shown in the Burungi Bwansi initiatives.

Why “Pearl Roots”?

The Pearl is Uganda: the Pearl of Africa. The roots are the traditions, values and shared practices that hold a community steady. Our logo shows both, with a pearl held safe in the roots beneath a rising sun.

The rising sun looks ahead to the future we are growing toward. Our colours are orange, green and white, and our mantra is: Our Heritage, Our Future.

Burungi Bwansi

Burungi Bwansi is about conservation and dignified living: creating the kind of ecosystem every community deserves. That means greenery and tree planting, clean sources of energy, flourishing flora and fauna, and healthy, friendly living for all.

Tree planting, waste management, organic food, renewable energy and neighbourliness are all traditional practices of Uganda’s communities. We bring them back as a practical way of life.
