Privacy policy

Pearl Roots Harakati Ltd. (“Pearl Roots”, “we”, “us”) is a non-profit cultural initiative headquartered in Biharwe West, Mbarara City North Division, Mbarara City, Uganda. This page explains what information this website collects, why, and the choices you have.

What we collect

This website has no accounts, no sign-up and no payments. The only personal information we receive is what you choose to send us through the contact form, by email, by phone or on WhatsApp: normally your name, email address, the topic and your message.

How the contact form works

When you press “Send message”, your name, email address, topic and message are saved in our secure database and can be read only by Pearl Roots administrators who sign in with a password. We use what you send solely to reply to you and to follow up on your enquiry, and we keep it only as long as that is needed. You can ask us to delete it at any time.

Cookies and tracking

This website does not set cookies. It does not use analytics, advertising or tracking tools, and it does not build profiles of visitors. If this ever changes, we will update this page first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

Other services you may meet

• Google Fonts. The site’s typefaces load from Google. Your browser therefore contacts Google’s servers, which can see your IP address. See Google’s privacy policy for details.
• WhatsApp. The “Message us on WhatsApp” link opens WhatsApp, which is governed by its own privacy terms.
• Database provider. Messages are stored with Supabase, our database provider, which processes them on our behalf and may store them on servers outside Uganda. Photos and news we publish are stored there too.
• Hosting. Our web host may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, date and page requested) for security and reliability.

Your rights

Under Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019, you may ask us to confirm what personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, and you may object to its use. Write to us at the email address below. If you are unhappy with our response, you may complain to Uganda’s Personal Data Protection Office.

Children

This website is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We collect very little, and the website is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. No system can be guaranteed completely secure, but we limit what we collect and who can see it.

Changes to this policy

We will post any changes on this page and update the date at the top.
